Laura García Diaz

About:

Laura García Diaz is a dual degree candidate (MSc Occupational Therapy/PhD Rehabilitation Sciences) in the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University. Through the Empowering Dementia-Friendly Communities project, she is working with the Hamilton Council on Aging and their partners to make Hamilton and Haldimand County more inclusive for people living with dementia and their caregivers. To support a more systematic approach to the development, implementation, and evaluation of dementia-friendly communities, Laura’s work focuses on evaluation research. Prior to starting her PhD, she worked for the Alzheimer Society of Canada in knowledge translation where she developed dementia-related content for a variety of stakeholders, including people living with dementia, care partners and health care providers.

Her research interests also include knowledge translation, social isolation and loneliness in older adults, dementia care and culturally appropriate and safe health care practices.
