Helen Beny

About:

Helen is a PhD Candidate in Comparative Public Policy at McMaster University’s Department of Political Science. Her research centers on the intersection of technology and politics, specifically examining media policies, surveillance, and digital repression in both democracies and autocracies. She specifically analyzes how digital repression is increasingly used against ethnic minority communities in East Africa. Outside of her research, Helen is a community organizer and advocate, supporting youth through digital literacy sessions and post-secondary prep workshops.
