Sari-Sari Xchange Vector Festival in Toronto July 9-19

Overview

In collaboration with InterAccess and this year’s Vector Festival in Toronto (July 9-19), the Sari Sari XChange has been co-hosting an artist in residency program in digital media. Their on-going partnership is generating a number of exciting events and programming which includes an exhibition of AR works along Queen St. West (from the artists in residence), and exhibitions and performances in collaboration with Workman Arts (July 11- 21)  in conjunction with Vector Fest. This exhibition will feature collaborative projections, VR, live coding performances, motion capture and interactive works.

InterAccess invited the SSX research creation team to create a 3min video contribution to the large projection site at Canada Malt Silos (dates included in link).

The Sari-Sari Xchange (SSX) is a community-building research & creation project using Extended Reality (XR) (ie. Virtual, Augmented, Mixed Realities) to foster new works by artists from the Asian diaspora. They undertake exploration in emergent XR technologies and new storytelling techniques, address under-representation and issues of systemic racism as well as inaccessibility of these new technologies for both creators and users with disabilities. Through the support of SSHRC and MITACS, this research creation project is in partnership with InterAccess, Reel Asian Toronto International Film Festival, Tangled Art+Disability, Centre [3] for Artistic and Social Practice and the Art Gallery of Hamilton and we collaborate with the Asiatic Itineraries Research Centre (AIRC) at OCAD University.

InterAccess is an artist-run gallery, educational facility and production studio in Toronto dedicated to emerging practices in art and technology. It is Ontario’s only organization devoted exclusively to electronic media art, supporting creative works involving robotics, generative AI, interactive installations and sound.

Workman Arts: https://workmanarts.com/ Workman Arts is a multidisciplinary arts organization that promotes a greater understanding of mental health and addiction issues through creation and presentation. They support artists living with mental health and addiction issues through peer-to-peer arts education, public presentations and partnerships with the broader arts community.
