Remembering Distinguished University Professor, Dr. Juliet Daniel

Overview

It is with deep sadness that the Pulse Lab acknowledges the passing of Dr. Juliet Daniel, an internationally recognized Cancer Biologist and Professor of Biology, proud Barbadian-Canadian, and co-founder of the African Caribbean Faculty Association of McMaster (ACFAM).

She is remembered for her groundbreaking discovery of the Kaiso gene, which is linked to increased metastasis and poor prognosis in several cancers, including breast, prostate, pancreas, and colon cancers. The gene is known to promote the progression of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC) which has been proven to affect a significantly higher number of women of African ancestry (Nigerian, Barbadian, African American) compared to Caucasian women.

Dr. Juliet Daniel was a proud advocate for Black women in STEM, and a lifelong advocate for advancing inclusion for Black scholars and youth. Her leadership, generosity, and dedication to her research will be remembered by the Pulse Lab.
