In her article, “Why Iran keeps turning off the internet during mass protests”, Niloofar Hooman discusses the digital blackout taking place in Iran. The internet blackout is being used as a political strategy by the Iranian government to control the actions of Iranians and prevent them from broadcasting the violence that is taking place. The article discusses how, by implementing a blackout, the government does not need to observe and take down each online posting they don’t agree with, instead they are preventing any and all communications from leaving the country.
