Event Information
Graphic memoir and auto-bio comics offer a unique and intimate glimpse into the lives of artists, and are increasingly recognized in the mainstream for their storytelling impact. Exploring the life-altering and excavating trauma takes a great level of care. Join Gaytheist writer and artist Lonnie Mann and a panel of artists examining the process of exploring the most difficult topics from our lives in nonfiction comics.
Cyril Chen will be participating in this discussion with comic artists and scholars on the topic of Exploring Difficult Subjects in Comics, at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival on May 10, 2024. Cyril will be providing insight on their past narrative work in comics and media art that explores trauma, trans narratives (in joy and grief), alongside discussion of their short comic project for their Creation-research project. Cyril’s comic is tentatively titled When you Left Our World and sits as a core aspect of their research paper that is about Transing the narrative, which explores queer and gender mainstreaming, trans mental health data, queer/trans media and semi autobiography.
